Lawrence Harris’s Good Bye, Dad, I’m Off to Fight for Old Glory, You Buy U.S. Gov’t Bonds was created in 1918 for the Third Liberty Loan campaign, one of the major U.S. government bond drives during World War I. The poster links military service with a corresponding obligation on the home front, presenting the purchase of government bonds as a way for fathers and other civilians to support the young men leaving for war. Its title turns that relationship into a direct exchange: the son goes off to fight, while his father is called upon to do his part financially.

The central image shows a young American soldier shaking hands with an older, white-bearded man while a rural landscape stretches behind them.
