The crews (American astronauts Thomas Stafford, Vance Brand, and Deke Slayton and Soviet cosmonauts Alexei Leonov and Valery Kubasov) spent roughly two days conducting joint experiments, exchanging visits, and demonstrating the compatibility of their spacecraft. The mission established technologies and working relationships that would eventually contribute to later U.S.-Russian cooperation in programs such as Shuttle-Mir and the International Space Station.
