Bermuda – Adolph Treidler (c. 1940-50) – Vintage Travel Poster Print

Adolph Treidler’s Bermuda captures the leisurely romance of island travel in a brilliantly graphic composition. A couple rides together beneath a large fringed parasol, seen from behind as they take in Bermuda’s vivid coastal landscape. The brilliant blue sky and sea, whitewashed architecture, green hills, and exuberant pink hibiscus create a distinctly tropical palette, while the sweeping cursive lettering gives the poster an appropriately relaxed, elegant character. The Library of Congress identifies Treidler as the artist and dates the poster to approximately 1940-1950, describing the scene as a couple enjoying a horse-drawn buggy ride around the island.

Treidler produced a number of posters promoting Bermuda tourism during the mid-20th century, each using the island’s scenery and leisurely outdoor life to evoke an appealing sense of escape. This example is particularly effective in the way it places the travelers themselves at the center of the experience: rather than simply presenting a picturesque landscape, it depicts Bermuda as somewhere to be enjoyed at an unhurried pace. The bold blocks of color, simplified forms, and decorative floral foreground give the work the polished graphic quality associated with the golden age of travel-poster design.
