Visit the Pacific Northwest Wonderland presents the Pacific Northwest as a dramatic meeting of towering forests, mountain wilderness, and modern civilization. Two travelers stand among enormous redwoods overlooking a broad river or inlet, with a small city spread across the valley below and snow-covered peaks rising beyond it. The Willmarths frame the scene between massive tree trunks, creating a powerful sense of depth as the eye moves from the intimate foreground to the distant mountains. The warm peach-colored sky, deep greens and browns, and cool lavender mountains give the composition a dreamlike quality, while the elegant combination of display lettering and flowing script reinforces its sophisticated 1920s travel-poster aesthetic.

The poster was created by brothers Kenneth and William Willmarth, who worked together under the name “The Willmarths” and became known for their distinctive railroad and Western travel imagery. Rather than focusing on a single landmark, they construct an idealized vision of the Pacific Northwest in which spectacular scenery is the principal attraction: immense redwoods suggest the region’s ancient forests, while the mountains and waterways evoke its wilderness and scale. The phrase “Travel by Train” places that scenery within the era’s growing culture of railroad tourism, inviting passengers to experience the landscape as part of the journey itself.
