The artwork centers on MACS 2129-1, a massive “dead” galaxy whose star formation ceased billions of years ago, leaving behind a vast stellar population slowly aging in the darkness of space.

The poster’s haunting imagery draws inspiration from real observations made with the Hubble Space Telescope. Unlike younger galaxies filled with bright, newborn stars, MACS 2129-1 is dominated by older red stars and appears remarkably mature for its place in the early universe.
