Designed by American artist Weimer Pursell for the 1933–34 Century of Progress International Exposition in Chicago, this poster captures the World’s Fair’s celebration of modernity, architecture, and international culture. The exposition was famous for its futuristic buildings and bold visual identity, presenting technological progress as an exciting vision of the future. Pursell’s design combines the fair’s modern architecture with a more whimsical, cosmopolitan view of the grounds.
The central tower rises dramatically above the fairgrounds, surrounded by stylized exhibition buildings and colorful architectural forms. In the foreground, visitors stroll along the waterfront while boats move across the water, creating a lively sense of scale and activity. Deep blue, golden yellow, orange, purple, and green form a vivid Art Deco palette, while the oversized typography and simplified geometric shapes give the poster its unmistakably modern character.
