The poster belongs to the golden age of American airline advertising, when companies such as United Air Lines used spectacular national landscapes to present air travel as a gateway to distant destinations. Feher makes the airplane an almost secondary element: the real attraction is the extraordinary landscape below, presented as something travelers can now reach with unprecedented speed and ease. Joseph Feher (1908-1987) produced a substantial body of travel advertising for United Air Lines, including posters for San Francisco, New York, Hawaii, Southern California, and the Pacific Northwest; auction records consistently attribute this Yosemite design to him.
